90 Years of Connection: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future
Ninety years ago, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines made aviation history as the first European airline to launch scheduled service between Amsterdam and Bonaire. On May 31, 2026, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), Bonaire International Airport (BIA), and Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) celebrated this milestone together with 90 years of aviation on Bonaire.
The anniversary honors Bonaire’s early aviation history, which began with KLM’s successful flight on
May 9, 1936, operated with the Fokker Oriol (PJ-A10), a sister aircraft to the Snip. Following this historic landing, KLM launched its first official scheduled passenger flight to Bonaire on May 31, 1936, marking the beginning of a long-standing connection between Bonaire, the Netherlands, and the wider world.
The commemorative event, held at Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino, brought together partners, stakeholders, and distinguished guests to reflect on nine decades of aviation, connectivity, and collaboration. Remarks were delivered by representatives of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Bonaire International Airport, and Tourism Corporation Bonaire, alongside a special address by Lieutenant Governor Soliano. Guests also enjoyed a cultural performance by the Rinconero Krioyo Kids.

During the celebration, special recognition was given to the Bonaire pilots who have contributed to aviation on Bonaire over the years. Their dedication and achievements were acknowledged as an important part of the island’s aviation legacy.
