Bonaire strengthens its presence in Toronto ahead of WestJet’s winter return
August 17, 2026
From August 11 to 14, 2026, Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB), together with Sorobon Luxury Beach Resort, conducted a sales mission in Toronto. The mission took place ahead of WestJet’s return of nonstop service between Toronto and Bonaire for the 2026/2027 winter season, presenting an important opportunity to generate bookings and strengthen Bonaire’s position in the Canadian market.
Canada has developed into one of Bonaire’s five leading stayover markets. Canadian arrivals increased from 3,437 in 2023 to 5,248 in 2025, representing growth of approximately 53%. During the first six months of 2026, Canada remained Bonaire’s fourth-largest source market, accounting for 3,541 stayover visitors. These results underline the importance of direct connectivity and continued investment in the market.
“Canada’s growth demonstrates the value of sustained market presence and reliable air access. Canadian travelers are a strong match for Bonaire, as they are drawn to nature, outdoor experiences, and authentic destinations. Our focus is not only on filling flights this winter, but also on building lasting demand and creating the conditions for this route to continue and grow. This strengthens the diversification and resilience of Bonaire’s tourism economy,” said Elesiër Angel, CEO of Tourism Corporation Bonaire.
During the mission, the Bonaire delegation visited the Canadian Meetings and Events Expo (CMEE) and met with representatives from WestJet and Sunwing to review route performance and discuss upcoming marketing campaigns. The team also engaged directly with travel professionals to increase destination knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and equip advisors with the tools needed to confidently promote Bonaire.
The delegation hosted a Bonaire-inspired live-cooking dinner led by Bonairean chef Giovannie Veld. The evening featured a tamarind welcome drink, networking, a destination presentation, and a live-cooking demonstration for more than 25 leisure travel advisors and online travel agency representatives. A separate lunch presentation was attended by an additional 20 travel professionals.
Both events concluded with prize raffles. Prizes included round-trip airfare between Toronto and Bonaire, courtesy of WestJet; a seven-night stay for two at Sorobon Bay Hotel, including breakfast; and a four-night stay for two contributed by Delfins Beach Resort.
The strong interest shown throughout the mission reflects the continued potential of the Canadian market and supports TCB’s efforts to strengthen the long-term viability of nonstop connectivity between Toronto and Bonaire.
TCB extends a special thank you to Sorobon Luxury Beach Resort, Arena Destination Marketing, WestJet, Delfins Beach Resort, and chef Giovannie Veld for their contributions to the success of the mission.
