Are you also dreading the coming fall and winter? Then, an escape to Bonaire might be the perfect time! 1. A soothing tropical climate

Yes, it is a bit of a flight, but you will immediately forget that when you feel that first tropical breeze. In the Dutch winter months, Bonaire consistently has 30°C and more than 8 hours of sun per day. So, just relax and enjoy your well-deserved portion of vitamin D.

2. Diving like a pro (or beginner)

Bonaire is known as a true diving paradise. The water around the island is a protected marine park, which means clear, healthy, and full of life. Whether you’re just starting out or have been diving for years, this is the place to be. No lugging around heavy tanks, just stop at a drive-thru for your oxygen and hop into the water. The reefs? In top condition. Just pure underwater fun.

3. Discoveries in nature

Are you more into nature on dry land? Then Washington Slagbaai National Park is your place. This park covers a fifth of the island and offers everything from the highest hill on the island, Brandaris, to vast salt lakes full of flamingos. Mountain biking, hiking, or just enjoying the views? Check. Oh, and that hill? In clear weather, you can even spot Venezuela from the top. Read much more about the beautiful nature on Bonaire here.

4. Beaches where you feel like you're the only one in the world

Bonaire has around 22 beaches, each of which deserves a postcard. What’s unique about Bonaire’s beaches is that they are almost all naturally formed and rich in coral, stones, and shells. It can also happen on Bonaire that you have a beach all to yourself. In short, here you get the ultimate bounty island feeling. With the size of Texel (in the Netherlands), you can basically visit any beach, but you definitely shouldn’t miss this:

-1000 Steps: Don’t panic. It’s only 67 steps to the beach below, where you can snorkel beautifully, and yes, the turtles often hang out here.

– Te Amo Beach: planes flying low while you’re chilling? Check. Grab your snorkel, because here too the underwater world is great.

– Pink Beach: named after the pink sand beach, which largely disappeared due to a storm, but it’s still a picture. Relaxing, picnicking, diving—it’s all possible here.

– Sorobon Beach: shallow water of the most beautiful shade of blue, ideal for families. Also perfect for windsurfers and nice restaurants all around. Really recommended on the east side.

Tip: on the beaches page you can easily search for the ideal beach.

5. The best hotels and accommodations

On Bonaire, you have a very varied range of hotels and accommodations. Are you looking for a luxury hotel, or do you want a small-scale accommodation with lots of peace and quiet? You can find it all. The nice thing is that the accommodations are completely equipped for divers’ arrival. For example, they often offer sinks to rinse your stuff and lockers to dry your equipment and store it safely. An overview of accommodations on Bonaire can be found here.

6. Kralendijk: Colorful vibes

Kralendijk is the lively heart of Bonaire. Colorful buildings, impressive monuments, cozy cafes and boutiques: here you have everything for a relaxing afternoon. Stroll along the boulevard, have a drink at one of the bars  and score souvenirs in Kaya Grandi. Don’t forget to visit Fort Oranje for a touch of history. Whether you come for the atmosphere or are looking for a nice place to stay, Kralendijk does not disappoint. Read more about Downtown Kralendijk.

7. Birdwatching as if you’re in a nature film

Bonaire is not only a paradise for fish but also for birds. With more than 200 species, including thousands of flamingos, there is plenty to spot here. Washington Slagbaai National Park is the place to admire birds in their natural habitat. But the salt pans and the Gotomeer are also a gathering place for flamingos and many other birds. Keep an appropriate distance because those birds are not coming for your pictures. You can find more about the rules of conduct in nature and the Bonaire Bond here.

8. Yoga on Bonaire? Really!

Yoga on Bonaire? Maybe not the first thing you think of, but believe me, this island is perfect for a yoga session. Start your day with a lesson on the beach or take a private session under the palm trees. With the peace and quiet and relaxed pace of Bonaire, you will return here completely zen. No stress, just relaxation.

9. Culture and hospitality that embrace you

Bonaire has more to offer besides its beautiful nature; the culture and people of Bonaire complete the picture. The locals are warm and welcoming, and you will quickly feel at home here. Immerse yourself in the local cuisine, music, and traditions. Visit the markets, taste authentic dishes, and discover the unique mix of cultures that makes Bonaire so special. No stress here, just relaxed vibes and a smile on every face.

10. World-class windsurfing

Bonaire is a playground for windsurfers, from beginners to pros. The trade winds and crystal clear, shallow water of Sorobon make this the place to go windsurfing. Situated on the east side of the island, Sorobon offers perfect conditions: steady tradewinds, warm water, and sunny weather almost every day of the year. Here you can see the best windsurfers in the world in action, and if you are lucky, you can learn from them. After a day on the water, end with a cold drink and a tropical snack at one of the beach bars. Are you more into kite boarding or wing foiling? There’s excellent conditions for that on Bonaire as well on a dedicated area at Atlantis Beach!
