TCB’s preliminary figures for April 2024 reveal a record-breaking arrival of visitors to the island. Comparatively, in 2023, the total number of visitors amounted to 15,519, while in 2019, it stood at 14,100, signifying a positive trend in Bonaire’s tourism trajectory. Dutch visitors remained the largest group, accounting for 44% of the total, followed by Americans at 20%. Additionally, visitors from Curaçao accounted for 19% of our visitors; Canada, Germany, and Aruba also contributed significantly to Bonaire’s tourism industry.
The number of Canadian visitors rose from 275 in 2023 to 611 in 2024, marking an impressive increase of approximately 122%, partly thanks to the WestJet flight out of Toronto. WestJet concluded its seasonal flights in April and will resume for the next winter season.
Dia di Rincon played a significant role in attracting more visitors from the former Netherlands Antilles, further enriching the diverse range of tourists on the island. Moreover, there were a total of 3,335 visitors from Curaçao, approximately 1,000 more than in a typical month.
Aruban visitors also emerged as a prominent market for Bonaire, with 595 stayover visitors recorded in April, positioning Aruba as the fifth-best-performing market last month.
US visitors visited primarily from New York, Florida, Massachusetts, California, Colorado and other major states. The age groups with the highest representation were 55-64 (25.9%) and 45-54 (20%), indicating a strong interest from mature travelers. Dutch visitors mainly hailed from North Holland, South Holland, and North Brabant, with the dominating age group being 45-54 (19.7%) and 55-64 (19.2%).
